Vessel wall MRI of an inflamed aneurysm with atherosclerosis in a patient with ischemic stroke.

چکیده
A 69-year-old woman presented with right leg weakness and ataxia. CT angiogram revealed a 6-mm left middle cerebral artery (MCA) aneurysm. Intracranial vessel wall MRI (IVWM) (figure) showed ischemic strokes in the left MCA region, inflammatory changes in the aneurysmal wall, and adjacent atherosclerosis. IVWM is a highresolution black-blood MRI technique that allows visualization of the arterial vessel wall. Postcontrast enhancement of unruptured aneurysms is associated with instability, and atherosclerotic plaque enhancement is associated with ischemic stroke. This report of a patient with ischemic stroke shows the association of a symptomatic inflamed aneurysm with atherosclerotic plaque on IVWM.

Drug Therapy for Small Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
Dear Editor,Abdominal aortic aneurysm is often asymptomatic, less recognized, and causes considerable mortality and morbidity, if missed. The incidence varies from country to country and the occurrence is influenced by modifiable (smoking, coronary heart disease, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and prolonged steroid therapy) and non-modifiable risk factors (increasing age, male gender, and positive...

Intracranial atherosclerotic disease (ICAD), as a most common cause of ischemic stroke, has been drawing increased attentions of clinicians and researchers in the worldwide. Advanced imaging techniques, especially High Resolution Magnetic Resonance Imaging (HRMRI), could visualize the pathology of intracranial arterial diseases. However, current knowledge about histology of intracranial atheros...

متن کاملHigh-Resolution MRI of Intracranial Atherosclerotic Disease
Intracranial atherosclerotic disease (ICAD) causes up to 10% of all ischemic strokes, and the rate of recurrent vascular ischemic events is very high. Important predictors of vulnerability in atherosclerotic plaques include the degree of stenosis and the underlying plaque morphology. Vascular wall MRI can provide information about wall structures and atherosclerotic plaque components. High-reso...
متن کاملSilent subcortical brain infarction
Introduction: The silent brain lesions detected by MRI were fairly common not only in first-ever stroke but also in normal elderly subjects. Some recent studies show the possible role of silent sub-cortical brain infarction in ischemic stroke. The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of silent sub-cortical brain infarction in acute first-ever ischemic stroke. Methods: In this descrip...
